Teenage & Young Adult Care

Utilizing Chinese medicine modalities to support teens and young folks.

Concerns Treated

For those aged 13-25, Chinese medicine has many modalities that can support the intensity of hormonal changes. It has been a challenging time in the world, but particularly for this age group and acupuncture is a wonderfully gentle way to calm a stressed nervous system. Examples of concerns that can be addressed include:

  • orthopedic/sports injuries

  • cold/flu symptoms

  • allergies/sensitivities (seasonal and food-related)

  • depression/anxiety

  • hormone imbalances

  • sleep

  • identity exploration

  • sexual education/health

  • stress

  • mold exposure

  • attention/hyperactive concerns

The Treatment

Most important is that the young person feels safe and supported in our space. It usually takes 4-5 treatments to build a trusting relationship. An appointment will typically include an intake to assess the main concerns and a combination of acupressure, which is applying pressure to acupuncture points, acupuncture, cupping, gua sha, vibrational sound therapy, manual therapy and/or stick-on tacks that contain tiny needles to maintain the effects of the treatment beyond the appointment. As it is such an influential age, there will also be nutritional and lifestyle counseling. If appropriate, Chinese herbal medicine in the form of liquid concentrates will be prescribed. It is a gift to have another trusting adult in your child’s corner and I would love to be part of their care team.
